I have been monitoring CPU utilization in the past. But since I have have been working almost exclusively on SQL Server, I have ignored it. I started working on Windows systems today with the release of Windows 10. My first try was on a Windows 10 workstation that runs a virtual machine. The virtual machine is the SQL Server used for development. I was surprised how much CPU time is consumed in the virtual machine. I was working on the machine for nearly an hour and it was getting a bit sluggish. As an experiment, I switched off the virtual machine and it operated at 100% utilization. I thought this would be a great point to start monitoring CPU utilization again.
