NOTE: The NIST recommended approach to using this calculator is as follows:

Step 1 – Calculate the required proportion using the table.

Step 2 – Calculate the proportions using the text box values

Step 3 – Calculate the proportions by having values in the corresponding text boxes.

The standard approach for use with step 2 and 3 is to first press the calculator, then press the ‘Calculate’ button to the right of the calculator and lastly type in the values for the text boxes.

NOTE: If the NIST approach is used, only the values in the text boxes will be used to calculate the results.

If you are asked to calculate a proportion that is less than 0 or greater than 100:

Step 1 – Clear the calculator then press the Calculate button.

Step 2 – If the proportion was not calculated correctly (i.e., it is greater than 100 or less than 0), then press the button labeled ‘Re-Calculate’.

Step 3 – If the proportion was calculated correctly, then press the button labeled ‘OK’.

Step 4 – If the proportions are outside the required 0-100 range, then press the button labeled ‘Adjust Range’.
