PortScanner is a lightweight and portable piece of software designed to scan an IP address for any open ports.
PortScanner Free Download PC/Windows
Scan for any open ports and print out a list of discovered ports as well as the operating system details to the output.
Running the scanner from the command line for the first time may take a short time. On later runs it will be cached on disk for quicker scanning.
The output may be helpful for quickly identifying potential security vulnerabilities.
How to install
If you have downloaded the binary you can use the default installation parameters to start the scanner.
$./netcat-open-ports-test -n 4 /tmp/files/netcat-open-ports.test.conf
To install it, rename the original executable file to netcat-open-ports.
To install it from source you will need:
GNU make
Ruby interpreter
Download the binaries for netcat-open-ports-test and unzip it somewhere on your $PATH
Running the scanner
From the command line you can start the scanner with:
$./netcat-open-ports-test -n 4 /tmp/files/netcat-open-ports.test.conf
Or you can simply use the shortcut key ‘c’ for the same command.
For other operating systems download:
How to use the output
The output can be filtered to show only the ports, or to show only the operating system details.
The filter used to show only the open ports is to filter the output on ‘Option’ as *Option = 0.
By default all the operating systems available are listed.
This default filter should be used when first running the scanner as it is more convenient.
Additional info
The output includes an embedded link to the netcat-open-ports documentation:
The links on the documentation are included in the output.
If you would like to filter the output to show only OS details you can run:
$./netcat-open-ports-test -n 4 -o (OS_name, OS_type) /tmp/files/netcat-open-ports.test.conf
PortScanner [32|64bit]
PortScanner is an easy-to-use utility that quickly scans and lists all open TCP and UDP ports on a given IP address.
PortScanner is a free and open source tool which is cross-platform compatible (Windows and Linux), lightweight and portable (minutes, not hours).
PortScanner is designed to scan an IP address for any open ports.
PortScanner runs in the background and automatically refreshes ports that have been changed during the current scan.
PortScanner and several other features are also available in the form of stand-alone apps.
Installing
PortScanner is a simple command-line software that installs (or updates) and runs in the background without the need of administrator privileges.
Version 1.0 of PortScanner has been released on July 24, 2012.
How to use
PortScanner is a command-line utility that can be run from a command prompt or inside a program by entering the “//scan ip” command on the command line.
Examples:
PortScanner -a -i -l c:OpenPort.txt -m “TCP:12345, UDP:65535” -t 60 -p /path/to/pcapportscanner.log -s c:OpenPort.txt
PortScanner -a -i -l c:OpenPort.txt -s “12345, 65346” -p c:OpenPort.txt
PortScanner -a -i -s 12345, 65346 -p c:OpenPort.txt
PortScanner -a -i -l c:OpenPort.txt -m “TCP:12345, UDP:65535” -s “12345, 65346” -p c:OpenPort.txt -t 60 -p c:OpenPort.txt
PortScanner -a -i -l c:OpenPort.txt -m “TCP:12345, UDP:65535” -s “12345, 65346” -p c:OpenPort.txt -t 60
PortScanner -a -i -l c:OpenPort.txt -m “TCP:12345, UDP:65535” -s “12345, 65346” -p c:OpenPort.txt -s “12345, 65346” -p c:OpenPort.txt -t 60

What’s New In PortScanner?
PortScanner is a utility to discover information about any open TCP/UDP ports on the target host. It will scan all ICMP, IP, and TCP/UDP ports that are open on the host and report on that information.
A:
Basically, you have your targets IP address, and then you want to try to get as close as you can to it. You can do this with ping.
Something like:
ping -n 1 -w 2 10.101.232.1
Where:
-n 1 tells it to ping the target, and then sleep for 2 seconds before trying it again
-w 2 tells it to use 2 packets
10.101.232.1 is the IP address you want to check (you have to define this in the command, probably not with quotes)
If you define the address to be a wildcard (i.e. *.example.com) then you can do the same, except, it won’t sleep:
ping -n 1 -w 2 *
The -n 1, and -w 2 are what you need to adjust according to your needs.
To get a list of port numbers, you can use netstat, or nmap, or something like this:
netstat -an
But that won’t tell you if it’s listening on that port, unless you specify the -p on the command line.
You need to make sure you have all the proper tools for the job, so you are actually able to scan the machine and see what ports are open. Find out more about ports and services here:
