Premiership clubs have been issued with an improvement plan following their Brexit meltdown.
Instead of moving the date of the season from April to August – as both France and England have done – Premiership Rugby said clubs would be fined if they decided to play in the same month as the World Cup.
Numerous domestic fixtures were postponed – and one event called off – because of the uncertainty in the UK’s departure from the European Union.
“This new approach is one of the many extra steps we’ve taken to support our clubs,” said Premiership Rugby chief executive Mark McCafferty.
“Our owners are totally committed to this competition and to making the game a success and we’ve been working closely with clubs to agree a solution.
“Our approach is we’ve removed the financial pressure that previously existed by delaying the start of the Premiership season until after the World Cup.
“If clubs wish to play matches on the same weekend as the World Cup that will be their choice.”

Clubs will be fined if they decide to play on the same weekend as the World Cup
Premiership Rugby has said it is more than happy to keep the top level of domestic rugby afloat and back its clubs.
They have said they are committed to ensuring live TV coverage and the running of the league is “as straightforward as possible”.
Clubs will have until 11 December – a month before the World Cup kicks off – to finalise their 2018-19 season.
If they do not make a decision then they will be fined and this process will start from 1 January.
“We work with clubs on a day-by-day basis,” said England forward Dylan Hartley.
